Madison Avenue in three minutes!

Before I say anything about today's card, I'd just like to remind you that today is the last day for ordering from the autumn/winter catalogue! Only a few items are carrying over so if there's anything that you really feel belongs in your stash, do email me today!

Now, it's Three Minute Thursday here today so it's time for a very fast card. Madison Avenue, one of the lovely sets you can get free as part of the Sale-a-bration promotion, was out on my desk and within minutes this had happened:

You can get so many looks from Madison Avenue and this particular card seems to be rocking a bit of a peacock feather vibe!

The stylised flower was made by punching out concentric circles and glueing them together slightly off-centre. I love the way it looks with this amazing leaf image.

Such a bold flower needed a bold sentiment and what better set to reach for than Sassy Salutations? I'd stamped my flower and sentiment onto a panel cut slightly narrower than my card base and a quick score to the right and left edges gave a bit of detail and a neat finish.

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Madison Avenue (free with Sale-a-bration), Sassy Salutations
Ink: Garden Green, Elegant Eggplant
Card stock: Whisper White, scrap of Elegant Eggplant, Rich Razzleberry, Night of Navy
Punches: 3/4" and 1/2" circle punches, Circle from Itty Bitty punch pack
Other: Simply Scored,  stamp-a-majig
I'd be delighted to order any of these items for you and have them delivered straight to your address in the UK. I'm committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to offer help and advice. To place your order, just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

My youngest son came home from school yesterday complaining of feeling headachey and cold so after a hot bath he went straight to bed. When the children were small we'd put life on hold and curl up on the sofa together when they were poorly and I remember it being quite a relief to have a bit of a rest myself! If they needed pain relief, I'd give them liquid paracetamol which we always called Fluffy Pink Medicine. Once, I couldn't get the pink stuff and one of them was outraged at the idea of taking Fluffy White Medicine - no matter how much I emphasised its fluffiness, it just didn't have the pink magic required!

See you tomorrow for lots of excitement as the new spring/summer catalogue is launched!

Madison Avenue for a male

Well so far I've used my free Madison Avenue stamp set to make an anniversary/valentine, some notelets, a Christmas card and a CAS birthday card! Today I've used it to make a male card, inspired by the 'For the Boys' challenge at Make My Monday. Come and have a look:

I heat-embossed this brilliant happy birthday oval sentiment and used two stamps from Madison Avenue to make a symmetrical background. It needed a little bit of detail so I dry embossed this frame over the top - it's a clear embossing folder so it was easy.

TIP: Some people have told me that their card stock creases when using this embossing folder and I advised them to use the crease pad instead of the top cutting pad in their Big Shot sandwich. I don't know if it's the cold weather affecting my  machine, but that no longer seems to be working for me so this is how I got round it: I didn't use a cutting pad at all!

Instead, I used (from bottom to top) the multi-purpose platform fully closed, two sheets of card stock, my embossing folder with card stock in it, the crease mat. Hey presto - a perfect impression with no creases on the card stock!

I liked this design for a male card so I made another, this time inspired by this week's Dynamic Duos colour palette.

There's a hint of the laurel leaf about the card that makes it suitable for our conquering heroes!

Here's what you'll need to make these cards
Stamps: Madison Avenue (free with Sale-a-bration), Perfect Punches
Ink: Gumball Green, Midnight Muse for 1st card, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake for 2nd
Card stock: Crumb Cake for 1st card, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla for 2nd
Other: Clear embossing powder, versamark, heat tool, Designer Frames embossing folder, Big Shot, stamp-a-majig
I'd be delighted to order any of these items for you and have them delivered straight to your address in the UK. I'm committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to offer help and advice. To place your order, just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

My desk is situated next to some French doors leading out into our little garden and there's a cat flap fitted in a panel next to the door to enable little Tuppence to wander in and out as she pleases. In the winter months, however, the wind blows through the flap and it's a bit like sitting next to an open window, so I've been locking it closed. Tuppence doesn't approve of this of course but has discovered a way to teach me a lesson: She goes to the cat flap, looks at it then looks at me, meowing piteously; I come and bend down to open the flap for her, find that she's disappeared and then discover that she's snuck onto the nice warm cushion that I was sitting on just a minute ago! BAD cat!

It's Three Minute Thursday here tomorrow so I'll be back then for a quick card. See you then!

Festive Madison Avenue

Did you see this Christmas card I made with the free Sale-a-bration set Bloomin' Marvellous? I don't know what's got into me but I found myself wondering whether Madison Avenue might be pursuaded to turn festive too... I blame those lovely ladies over at the 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown! The challenge there this week is to make a festive 'triple time' stamped card so, armed with Madison Avenue, off I went! Here's what happened:

I've been fascinated with the triple stamp card for ages so it was fun to make one. They're ever so easy: you cut three concentric rectangles, stick them together with temporary glue (a tiny bit of Snail adhesive will do it) and stamp your design as if you're stamping on a single piece of card stock; you then separate the rectangles, cut mats for each and re-assemble.

One of the flowers in the Madison Avenue set reminds me of a snowflake, so I stamped three of them in Marina Mist ink around a Christmas greeting and decorated the centres with an icy-looking gem. To add to the snowy feel I filled in the gaps with the splodge stamp from French Foliage using the paler Bashful Blue ink. It's always exciting to combine stamps from different sets!

This beautiful sentiment is part of the Christmas stamp in Delightful Dozen. I coloured the bit I wanted with a marker and used a Stamp-a-majig to position it accurately. Being a CAS kind of a girl I've tried to keep plenty of white space on my card but of course you can make them as detailed as you like!

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Madison Avenue (free with Sale-a-bration), French Foliage, Delightful Dozen (sentiment)
Ink: Marina Mist, Bashful Blue
Card stock: Whisper White, Bashful Blue
Other: Cherry Cobbler marker, Basic Rhinestones, stamp-a-majig
I'd be delighted to order any of these items for you and have them delivered straight to your address in the UK. I'm committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to offer help and advice. To place your order, just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

I do apologise for posting a snowy card today - I know quite a lot of us in the UK have had quite enough of snow and ice! The children have even gone off ice cream - and that really is saying something!

See you tomorrow for more crafting fun!

Free stamps from Stampin' Up!

Just in case you hadn't heard, Stampin' Up's Sale-a-bration promotion is on at the moment and if you'd like to set up your own Stampin' Up business it really is the best time to join as you'll get so much more in your starter kit. It's a great time to go shopping too as you can get all sorts of fabulous goodies for free! I'm enjoying road-testing the free stamp sets at the moment and Madison Avenue is my current obsession.  I've made some note cards for today using the set - come and have a look:

Don't you just love these pretty stylised flowers?! The Itty Bitty punch pack is the natural partner of this set and I used the four-petalled flower punch to create centres for them. Markers always make your stamps more versatile - I've coloured just one pair of leaves on the leaf image and used my stamp-a-majig to position them on my card front. The same marker was used to add detail to the leaves and to mark in a stem.

I used the whole leaf image for the plant in this card and stamped a different flower image from the set on top.  I love the simplicity of this design!

This line of four flower shapes looks great stamped in rows. I've coloured the insides of the shapes with markers and stamped the decorative centres on top.

You can do so much with this wonderful set and I'm only just getting started!

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Madison Avenue (free with Sale-a-bration), various sentiments
Ink: Garden Green, Tangerine Tango, Summer Starfruit
Card stock: Very Vanilla, scrap of Garden Green
Other: Itty Bitty punch pack, Basic Rhinestones, stamp-a-majig

We took a trip to beautiful Oxford yesterday as my daughter needed to go there for part of her art project. The sun shone for us and we had a lovely time exploring the city and visiting the museums. On the way back I broke into a song which has always amused me: "Keep your mind on your drivin', keep your hands on the wheel and keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead. We're havin' fun sittin' in the back seat kissin' and a huggin' with Fred!" My daughter laughed and told me that when she was small I used to sing only the first part of that song and she always thought it was an informative piece about driving!

It looks as if we've swapped the snow for wind and rain so it's waterproofs at the ready for the week ahead! See you tomorrow,

Sale-a-bration stained glass

I'm strutting about this morning because when I checked the Less is More blog this morning to see what the latest challenge is, I was given a name check! Jen mentioned that I use a layered stamping technique a lot (and it's true I am a lazy stamper!) and then showed the most beautiful example she'd made - do have a look. There's a wonderfully CAS sketch for us this week and, since I've set myself the task of show-casing the gorgeous stamp sets you can get for free during the Sale-a-bration promotion, I reached for Madison Avenue. Come and see:

Madison Avenue contains lots of exciting stylised plant images...
... but that image at the top has been calling to me! It reminds me of stained glass. I decided to stamp two rows and fill the insides with shapes cut out of bright card stock with my favourite little punch from the Itty Bitty punch pack. It fits brilliantly!

I thought this would be a great card for a male so I chose a good manly sentiment (from For My Family). I was going to leave it there, but then I remembered the Itty Bitty Bits stamp set that coordinates with the punch pack and added a stamped and punched flower to just the blue shapes. Stamping the flower in black prevents the card from getting too girly and gives a tiny touch of detail.

This is the sketch I was working from today - it's so simple it's genius! Everyone needs boundaries (as I'm constantly telling my outraged children!) and the LiM team have asked us to keep the band horizontal and to keep it no wider than a third of the height of the card base.

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Madison Avenue (free with Sale-a-bration), Itty Bitty Bits, For My Family
Ink: Pacific Point, stazon black,
Card stock: Whisper White, scraps of Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Lucky Limeade, Summer Starfruit
Other: Itty Bitty punch pack, corner rounder, stamp-a-majig

Regular readers of my blog will know that my youngest son is a great joker. Well the other day, he came downstairs groaning artistically and clutching this:

I shrieked with horror and rushed over to him and he laughed at me for being so gullible. Afterwards, he asked me why someone would have bandaged the finger with the nail left in it and also who would have bandaged the finger! He's right of course, and that's aside from the fact that I was the person who bought this, wrapped it and placed it tenderly in my son's Christmas stocking!

As I write this, the temperatures have risen to the dizzy heights of 5 degrees C! The snow is on its way out and I might actually venture outside in a minute! See you soon,

A Bloomin' Marvellous Christmas!

Don't you just LOVE this time of year? So many lovely new Sale-a-bration stamp sets to play with and the icing on the cake is that you can get them FREE! I've been loving playing with the Bloomin' Marvellous set this week and today I'm showing you just how versatile it is by using it to make a Christmas card!

When I saw the 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown challenge this week 'Use designer paper and glitter, and decorate the inside of your card' I moved on, thinking the recipe would result in something to cluttered for my taste, but Ruth's second DT sample inspired me! Come and have a look:

Banners are still all the rage and it's so simple to cut your own using designer paper, card stock or Stampin' Up's fabulous glimmer paper. This stuff comes in 12" x 12" sheets and is the least messy way I know to use glitter! Even better, you can get it for free with orders of £150 or more AND you get to choose three of the Sale-a-bration freebies as well - that's a lot of bang for your buck as they say!

I made my banners all the same width but varied the lengths and the position I placed them in for a bit of interest. The ends are cut using one of my square punches - how easy is that?!

Here's a close up of the sentiment label I made. The sentiment in Bloomin' Marvellous usually says 'oh happy day' which is great for celebrations but, by using a marker on the rubber, I could leave out the word 'day', stamp it and then add in the word 'Christmas' using my stamp-a-majig to get it where I wanted it. I punched it out with the extra large oval punch and placed it in the centre of a label that's been cut with a framelit and decorated with a Decorative Frames embossing folder. I think the flower and leaves from Bloomin' Marvellous work well in these colours as a festive embellishment...

... and, not forgetting the inside of the card, I stamped them in one corner, leaving plenty of room to write my Christmas message.

There's a CAS challenge over at Addicted to Stamps and More this week so I'll also enter this card there, and I knew there was a good reason to make a Christmas card today... it's Rudolph Day at the lovely Sandra's blog! And there's a lot of snow about of course...

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Bloomin' Marvellous (free with Sale-a-bration), For My Family (for the word Christmas)
Ink: Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler
Card stock: Whisper White, scrap of Cherry Cobbler
Punches: Extra large Oval punch, Square punch
Other: Silver glimmer paper (free with sale-a-bration), Festival of Prints designer paper, Labels framelits, Designer Frames embossing folder, Basic Rhinestones, stamp-a-majig

Yesterday, my daughter settled down to do some homework alongside me as I crafted. She asked me if I minded having music on and I said I thought that would be nice. After a few minutes however I begged her to turn it off. "You said you didn't mind having music on!" she said. "I know," I said. "But this isn't music - it's just a very irritating noise!" To be fair, I normally like listening to her music as it's the only time I get to hear new things.

Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you very soon,

3 minute Bloomin' Marvellous notelets

Have you been drooling over all the wonderful items you can get for free during Sale-a-bration? (You can see them all here.) We certainly are spoilt for choice with 17 different items including stamp sets, embossing folders, papers, card stock embellishments, punches, and even the much-loved diagonal score board! There's no limit to how many you can get, so you can start a collection if you like! (Email me here if you'd like me to place your order.)

My favourite Sale-a-bration stamp set so far (I always change my mind as I use each one fully!) is Bloomin' Marvellous and for my Three Minute Thursday slot today I've used it in the simplest way to make postcard-style thank you notes. Come and have a look:

I love this little humming bird and you know what I'm like about birds carrying things about (see my blog banner) - he was bound to pick a leaf up eventually!

You can see it a little more clearly in this photo. These are such simple images but the distressed texture gives them a lovely bit of dimension.

This is such a quick way to make a thank you note - cut a sheet of A4 card stock into four, score a line towards the top of one of the pieces, stamp the design and there you are! You can actually make quite a few of these in three minutes!

Here's what you'll need to make these thank you notes
Stamps: Bloomin' Marvellous, Curly Cute
Ink: Gumball Green, Island Indigo
Card stock: Whisper White
Other: Simply Scored, stamp-a-majig

Goodness, it's been a busy few days! I think it's time to relax on the sofa, put my feet up with a nice cup of tea and take a look at the Sunday papers! But not on this sofa I think...

My youngest son, who made this, informs me it's a snowfa!

See you tomorrow,

Mmm... Bloomin' Marvellous nectar!

There's a sketch challenge at Make My Monday this week and the three square elements on it reminded me that I haven't used my fabulous postage stamp punch for a little while. My Bloomin' Marvellous set was out on my desk, jumping up and down with its hand up, shouting Me, ME! - I just can't get enough of it! Come and have a look:

I made my postage stamps by stamping some of the leaves from the set onto some Very Vanilla card stock and punching out the bits I wanted with my 1" square punch. Next, the flowers were added and by using the tiny flower from Summer Silhouettes, I got a completely different look. A quick sponge round with  a dauber and some Marina Mist ink and the stamps were ready to mount onto postage stamp shapes punched out of Naturals Ivory card stock.

The nectar from these flowers must be delicious because that gorgeous little humming bird from Bloomin' Marvellous looks very happy! You can see I've used my markers to add a little definition to the plants and the little bird.

This is the 'thanks' from A Word For You - you may have seen me cut this sentiment out before. I love the movement in it!

Here's the sketch I was using today.

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Bloomin' Marvellous, Summer Silhouettes, A Word For You
Ink: Gumball Green, Midnight Muse, Summer Starfruit, Marina Mist
Card stock: Naturals Ivory, Very Vanilla
Punches: Postage Stamp punch, 1" square punch
Other: Markers, sponge daubers, paper snips

Everyone's back to school again now and the snow has turned to a treacherous ice. I've been amusing the neighbours by walking about like a heron in my efforts not to amuse them by slipping over and landing on the old derriere! Is it spring yet?!

I'll be back tomorrow with a fast idea for Three Minute Thursday. Hope to see you then!

Bloomin' Marvellous to say you care

Whoopee! Sale-a-bration starts today! You really do get so much more for your money during this promotion so don't miss out - find out all about it by going to my special Sale-a-bration page. You can place an order by contacting me here and if you're wondering about joining Stampin' Up as part of my team, click here and follow the link or give me a call on 01280 820593 for a no-obligation chat.

One of the Sale-a-bration stamp sets you can get for free when you spend £45 is Bloomin' Marvellous,  and I can tell you that I'm loving this versatile set! Today I've used it to make a card that would work as an anniversary or valentine card, or as a note for a loved one. Come and see:

The set contains a leaf stamp which is fantastic for creating the clumps of foliage I love stamping so much. Of course I've never seen flowers like these in real life...

...but the whole point about stamping is that you can let your imagination run riot! These tiny hearts are on one stamp from from my Little Additions set and I embossed them before stamping the leaves over the top. What I should have done then was polished them off with a tissue to take off the residue but, as you can see, I sort of forgot that step! Anyway, moving swiftly on...!

There are some beautiful sentiments in the Bloomin' Marvellous set and this is one of my favourites. What a lovely thing to say and what a beautiful pair of fonts to say it in! The butterfly comes from the set too (it's a bit like Mary Poppins' handbag isn't it?!) and there is a new punch coming out very soon that punches it out beautifully!

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Bloomin' Marvellous (free SAB set), Little Additions
Ink: Gumball Green, Midnight Muse, Marina Mist, Riding Hood Red
Card stock: Very Vanilla
Other: Versamark, clear embossing powder, heat tool
I'd be delighted to order any of these items for you and have them delivered straight to your address in the UK. I'm committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to offer help and advice. To place your order, just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

My children were all delighted to get a Snow Day yesterday. I'm not a raging fan of going out in the snow so I do lots of 'mother-henning'. "Wrap up warm," I tell them as they disappear outside. My youngest son takes me literally and goes out looking like the Michelin Man, while my eldest son is far too cool to wear winter woollies and finds it hilarious when I suggest a hint of scarf or glove! My daughter just teases me with chilly weather puns like "have an ice day" and "I snow it's cold out there". All three of them keep coming in and leaving a trail of snowy garments behind them. I haven't set foot outside for three days and I'm exhausted!

See you tomorrow,

Do EMAIL ME if you'd like more information about the Sale-a-bration offers.

Now, onto today's card: I've used my favourite Sale-a-bration free stamp set to make a card for the wonderful Inkspirational challenge, where the inspiration is this card designed by the lovely and talented Victoria Jeffries. I used the gorgeous colour scheme at CAS Colours and Sketches, which has long been a favourite combination of mine. Come and have a look:

I love this letterbox design! Victoria's card featured a divided card stock panel revealing the beautiful stamping behind, but I've gone with an aperture punched out with my large square punch. I gave the aperture a neat finish by scoring a frame round it using my Simply Scored tool.

I stamped my floral design onto some polka dot paper from the Patterns designer stack and added definition with markers. Such prettiness called out for some sparkle, so I added a touch of Dazzling diamonds glitter.

I wanted a sentiment with lots of movement and my favourite A Word For You sentiment set certainly fits the bill with its lovely flourishes. The 'hand-written' style words are surprisingly easy to cut out with sharp paper snips and I liked the way this one looked overlapping the floral panel.

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Bloomin' Marvellous, A Word For You
Ink: Melon Mambo, Old Olive
Card stock: Whisper White
Other: Markers, Pretty in Pink designer paper from Patterns stack, Dazzling Diamonds glitter, Simply Scored, 1 3/8" square punch, corner rounder
I'd be delighted to order any of these items for you and have them delivered straight to your address in the UK. I'm committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to offer help and advice. To place your order, just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

When my youngest son saw this card he told me it reminded him of a science experiment they'd been doing at school. I was not flattered! However, he went on to explain that they'd put perfume in the bottom of two divided test tubes, put air in the top of one and a vacuum in the top of the other and tested which would fill with the perfume most rapidly (for those that are interested, it's the one with the vacuum as there's nothing to slow the perfume down.) My card, my son said, was how he imagined the perfume should have looked in the test tube - he's more of a poet than a scientist, bless him!

As I write this, the snow is falling heavily here again. Take care and keep warm,

A bit of Life Shared

Hello from a very snowy Buckingham where the weather is a perfect excuse for hibernating in the Craft Square Metre! I've checked in at Less is More and found that the theme is Friends, so I've made a card with a wonderful single stamp called Life Shared. Come and have a look:

When I got this stamp I was thinking of engagement, wedding, anniversary and valentines cards, but I do think it fits in beautifully with the friendship theme. I am keen on a layout where everything's going on in one corner leaving lots of lovely white space in the rest of the card - have you noticed?!

Here's a close-up of that beautiful image which I've coloured with aquapainter and ink (you may notice that colouring is definitely not my forté but I had fun and that's the main thing!)

This is such a simple card - stamp the image, colour it and mount it onto first a mat then onto the card front. For a bit of interest, I decided to stamp the image again in Riding Hood Red, cut the sentiment out as a banner, add a little piercing and attach it across the layers.

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Life Shared
Ink: Wild Wasabi, Not Quite Navy, Riding Hood Red, Crumb Cake, So Saffron
Card stock: Very Vanilla, Riding Hood Red
Other: Blush Blossom marker (for colouring the skin), aquapainter, Essentials piercing templates
I'd be delighted to order any of these items for you and have them delivered straight to your address in the UK. I'm committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to offer help and advice. To place your order, just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.
DON'T FORGET,  SALEABRATION STARTS ON TUESDAY WITH FREE STAMP SETS AND OTHER ITEMS FOR EVERY £45 YOU SPEND.  IF YOU'RE THINKING OF JOINING STAMPIN' UP, YOU'LL GET 25% EXTRA IN YOUR STARTER KIT DURING SALEABRATION!

I saw several car collisions on my way home through the snow yesterday - nothing serious thank goodness - but it does make me think that it really is sensible to stay at home if it's at all possible. The rest of my family think otherwise however and won't consider they've made the most of the snow unless they've gone sledging down 'Death Hill'! It should be a comfort that my husband has gone with them but frankly he's worse than all of them put together and I shall be glad when they're safely home!

Keep warm,
